In 2019, four friends started a band, inspired by a shared passion for songwriting and noisemaking. Over the next three years, they played a handful of gigs, mostly at school discos, cutting their teeth on covers as their peers watched on, and slowly learning how to hold a room. When the members left school in 2022 and headed to university, the music stopped. Space, time, and adult responsibility had pulled the project apart, and ostensibly the band had died out.

But the dream hadn’t. After three years honing their crafts individually, behind DJ decks and in makeshift home studios, the band reconvened in the summer of 2025, with a renewed faith in their songwriting and a clearer sense of identity. Initial rehearsals proved successful, culminating in studio sessions at the end of the year. The result of those sessions is the band’s debut EP – Countryside – whose songs blend melodic vocals and introspective lyrics with angular guitars, insistent basslines, and pounding drums, exploring themes of adolescence, excess, and the romantic cycle.

The band is Cheap Street. We are:

Lucas Gardner – voice, saxophone
Hugo Blanchard – guitars
